James Thomas was born and raised in New York City, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Growing up in Amsterdam Houses (a New York City Housing Authority [NYCHA]), he developed a fascination for thegame of basketball. His experience and passion for the sport allowed himto learn leadership, organizational, decision-making, and mental tenacity skills through competing on Amateur Athletic Union, High School, and College-level teams. These very skills have also allowed him to successfully mentor youth and create a bridge to help those who have experienced or are currently experiencing the same challenges James faced as an adolescent.James is a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, wherehe received his Masters Degree in Public Administration (M.P.A.). James currently works for the City of New York as a Senior Analyst. James' two decades of professional experience in public service continue to guide him in working with the community by encouraging, inspiring, and teaching young people that being different is unique; to always be yourself; and to forever have hope.James not only values community, but he also cherishes his friends and family. In his spare time he enjoys listening to live music, watching sports, trying new restaurants, and traveling with his wife, Danielle, who he has been married to since 2018.
